Friendly Bacteria
Now referred to by the FDA as DFM's - Direct Fed Microbials.
In human foods, they are referenced as Probiotics
Eagle Pack formulas were the first, worldwide, to use
these friendly bacteria, at beneficial levels, in pet food diets.
DFM's like Lactobacillus acidophilus, and others guaranteed below,
are used to create synergistic benefits to your pet. We are the
only pet food company that lists DFM guarantees on our bag.
It means that your pet is getting effective benefits from the DFM's that
we guarantee. No other pet food company can make that guarantee.
When to Use DFM's
|
 |
At
Birth, the intestinal tract of newborns is basically sterile,
which provides the best opportunity for introducing the friendly
bacteria. |
|
 |
At
Weaning, a young animal's
digestive system is not fully developed to efficiently change from
(mother's) milk. |
|
 |
Handling (shipping, vaccinations, grooming, weather changes and extremes,
surgery and other situations) can result in reduced appetite and feed intake, which leads to possible
weight loss. |
|
 |
Antibiotic
Treatment
often lowers the number or growth of Lactobacillus and other
DFM's in the digestive tract. DFM's assist in
replenishing these friendly bacteria, resulting in a quicker
return to a balanced intestinal microflora.

Prebiotics, Probiotics (DFM's)
and Digestive Enzymes
Our company was 20 years
ahead of both the pet food and human food industries in
introducing the benefits of Probiotics (DFM's) to food.
Acting synergistically with Prebiotics and Digestive
Enzymes, these three healthy fundamentals to wellness
will reduce gas, aid digestion, improve nutrient
absorption, eliminate toxic substances, drive out killer
pathogens like E. coli and restore friendly bacteria
after antibiotic use. Your pet will have fewer
bouts with illness and you will have fewer vet visits.
Other companies may claim DFM's, but unless they
guarantee them on their bag label, they most likely are
not active in the food. (For guaranteed levels,
look at the guarantee section on our bag, starting with
"Total Lactic Acid Producing Live Organisms".) The
FDA verified the listing of our DFM's and routine checks
by state labs have verified we meet our guarantees.

Enzyme
Functionality Statement Product contains
enzymes. Protease for protein hydrolysis;
Cellulase for cellulose hydrolysis; Amylase for
starch hydrolysis. |
| |
(1) |
One HUT unit of
proteolytic (protease) activity is defined as
that amount of enzyme that produces, in one
minute under the specified conditions (40 deg
Celsius, pH 4.7), a hydrolysate whose absorbance
at 275 nm is the same as a solution containing
1.1 ug per ml of tyrosine in 0.006 N
hydrochloric acid. |
| |
(2) |
One Cellulase Unit
(CU) is that activity that will produce a
relative fluidity change of one in 5 minutes in a
defined carboxymethylcellulose substrate under
the conditions of an assay (50 deg Celsius, pH
4.5). |
| |
(3) |
One Dextrinizing
Unit (DU), or (SKB), unit of alpha-amylase
activity as defined as that amount of enzyme
that will dextrinize soluble starch...at the
rate of 1 g per hour at 30 deg Celsius.

Inulin & Beet Pulp
Inulin stimulates the growth of
DFM's. Combined with our high diet protein digestibility, it also aids in the reduction
of gas, which is important to the health of large-breed dogs.
Beet Pulp
is a quality fiber and also a food source for essential good bacteria
in a pet's gut. These good bacteria thrive and crowd out the bad bacteria
that cause diarrhea and vomiting. Beet pulp also gently cleans the intestinal
wall, allowing more nutrients to be absorbed. Some state that
excess amounts of beet pulp artificially reduces stool size. We
include only optimum amounts that provide the stated benefits.

Digestive Enzymes
The
Benefits of Digestive Enzymes
-
Aids
in digestibility by making nutrients more bioavailable to the animal.
-
Increase
nutrient availability.
-
These enzymes assist in the breakdown of feedstuffs into smaller,
more readily absorbed nutrients. By aiding in the digestive process,
dogs that may be predisposed to digestive upset will have fewer problems.
The two enzyme-bearing
ingredients in Eagle Pack are Aspergillus Oryzae Fermentation Solubles
and Bacillus Subtillus Fermentation Solubles. They provide for any
enzymes possibly lost in the cooking process of pet food.

The Benefits of Sequestering (SQM®)
SQM® Enhanced
Vitamin-Mineral System
Take charge of your pet's
health with our SQM® Enhanced System, unique
to Eagle Pack. It encapsulates trace minerals to
make them more bioavailable to your pet and to prevent
vitamin deficiencies. In checks of other brands,
we have found some deficient in Vitamin A. As pet
foods age, the level of vitamins deteriorate at a more
rapid rate than if they are not sequestered (SQM) or
protected in other ways.
The Benefits Of SQM® (Researched at the Univ. of Minnesota)
-
Trace
minerals (zinc, iron, copper, etc.) are encapsulated in kelp, protecting
them from stomach bacteria and interfering substances. Making minerals
more
bioavailable to the animal prevents deficiencies.

foods.)
SQM®
"Sequestering" vs. Chelating
SQM® metal ion sequestering and
metal ion chelating are
both processes which protect trace minerals. CHELATION uses a tight
uniform bonding strength while SEQUESTERING uses light and tight bonding,
which produces a more "timed release" in the digestive tract.

Kelp
Provides
60 Naturally Sequestered Nutrients
Kelp
serves as an aid to a healthy coatit can prevent coat thinning
and discoloration.
Our
kelp, harvested from clean, cold ocean waters, is a natural, highly
bioavailable source of 60 sequestered nutrients. Kelp promotes a healthy
coat and prevents thinning or discoloration. It also benefits the immune
system, and helps to prevent infertility and premature aging.

Stabilized Vitamin C
This
is manufactured from pure United States Pharmacopia (USP) grade vitamin
C. In this proprietary process the USP vitamin C is coated and stabilized
with various components to protect it from detrimental reactions. This
process is very effective in protecting the vitamin C and increases the
amount available in the pet food. Other "Esterified Vitamin C"
products are chemically modified. This type of vitamin C requires specific
enzymatic activity in the animal to utilize the compound.

Omega-Health®
The Benefits of Omega-6: Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Fatty acids aid in developing and maintaining good hair coat and healthy
skin. They can reduce skin inflammation caused by mosquito bites and skin
abrasions. Omega-6:
Omega-3 Fatty AcidsThe Benefits of Omega 6:3 Balance
For decades, research has shown that Omega-6 fatty acid (linoleic acid,
from sources such as chicken fat used in Eagle Pack formulas)
aids in maintaining healthy skin and hair coat.
Most brands of pet food have satisfactory levels of Omega-6. If the dog's
skin has an open cut, an abrasion, or a hot spot, high levels of Omega-6
contribute to inflammation.
Enter Omega-3 fatty acid. When the dog's skin has been violated, Omega-3
helps reduce inflammation.
Research indicates that Omega-6: Omega-3 ratios should be between 5:1
to 10:1. Eagle Pack formulas fall well within these ranges.

Yucca Schidigera Extract -
for reducing stool and urine odor
The extract
is naturally derived from Yucca Schidigera, a plant native to desert regions. Selected
extracts provide several benefits, including reduction of stool and urine
odor, and improved digestion. There is no scientific
research that yucca interferes with vitamin absorption. Holistic practitioners consider it as a digestive aid, and an aid
in preventing arthritis. Improved yucca sources and our highly
digestible diets can reduce waste odor by up to 64%.

Glucosamine Hydrochloride
Eagle Pack
uses human-grade Glucosamine from an FDA-inspected plant, which
manufactures this material for pharmaceutical and nutraceutical
companies. Glucosamine rebuilds joint cartilage, improves joint
flexibility, and reduces pain.

Antioxidants
Science tells us that
different antioxidants protect in different ways.
So we use a synergistic blend, unique for Eagle Pack, of
Vitamins A, E and C, Beta-Carotene and Selenium.
Vitamins A, E, C, plus Beta Carotene and Selenium are powerful
antioxidants that enhance the immune system and protect the body from
harmful effects of oxidation.
Our proprietary Vitamin C is a stabilized, longer
lasting version of Vitamin C.

DHA For Brain & Eye Health(1)
Puppy's growing brain needs
DHA, derived from nutritious Omega 6 and Omega 3 fats.
Weaning is the first window of opportunity to give your
pup a smart start in life. Most brands talk only
about Omega 3 fatty acids. Puppy's brain actually
requires Omega 6 fatty acids as well as Omega 3.
Our sources of DHA include Chicken Fat, Anchovy and
Sardine Meals, Flaxseed, Menhaden Fish Oil and
Dehydrated Kelp and Egg. The eye contains a high
concentration of DHA, formed from fats in the diet.
The more nutritious the fat, the better the eye can
function.

Feline Fiber System™
(Eagle Pack Hairball Formula)
Our unique combination of oat fiber, tomato pomace and beet pulp helps pass hairballs into the litter box and not regurgitated
on to the carpet. Each of these three fibers has a specific function.
Oat Fiber:
Human grade, as used in cereals, it functions similar to beet pulp, but
also creates a lubricating effect in the form of a mucillogenous polysaccharide
in the colon to aid in hairball relief. Oat fiber varies in length
(150-275 microns) and aids in their ability to hydrate the cat's system.
Tomato Pomace:
Slightly acidic, it enhances the cat's taste and swallowing action to carry
excess hair into the stomach, reducing hairballs from forming in the throat
and being regurgitated.
Beet Pulp:
Aids in encapsulating the hair, enhances parastolsis, moving the hair into
the litter box.
