Selecting the Correct Diet For Your Cat
Generally, the younger or more active your cat, the higher the protein
and fat levels should be. As your cat ages, is spayed or neutered,
or gains weight, diet selection will change to diets with lower protein
and fat levels. Our "Whole-Health"™ ingredients and "Wellness For
Life"® Custom Supplements guarantees that every diet we make
provides optimum nutrition for every cat, regardless of breed. We
have almost 20 years of feline experience behind every diet.
All Felines Have
The Same Basic Needs,
Regardless of Breed
Research, Worldwide
Our employees own a lot of cats, we work with a lot of catteries and
individual cat owners. We scour worldwide research for the latest
in peer reviewed nutrition articles. The cat's jaw and teeth
arrangement and the cat's digestive and urinary tracts are all different
from that of a dog. And yes, cats can be finicky eaters and for
good reasons.
Kibble
Size, Shape, Density, Texture and Taste
Dog's molars are designed more for grinding. A portion of the cats
jaw is set more for shearing of meat, or taking small nibbling, shearing
bites of cat kibble, which they can crunch. We have been working
with cat owners for over 30 years. We know how to create kibble
size, shape texture, and taste to appeal to all cats of all breeds.
That is why it is so important to have a correctly designed kibble that
is easy for cats to nibble.
Cats also have
reduced salivary ability. To initiate palatability and digestion,
all Eagle Pack diets have a special "pickle-like" ingredient that
activates the taste buds and gets the saliva flowing and the digestion
process started. Our Cranberry and Tomato Pomace also help.
Cats prefer canned food at near body temperature, about 101.5 degree F.
Your Cat's Health...
more important than
kibble size and shape.
FUS/Crystals
Cats are subject to FUS, crystals that can cause urinary tract disease
and pain. Our feline formulas are carefully designed to reduce or
eliminate this problem through low magnesium and low ash, correct pH
levels and high digestibility. The cat's owner can also play a
major role in controlling this problem. Cats drink and store water
differently from dogs. They store body water in highly
concentrated urine. High concentrations can lead to crystal
formation. In our work with cat owners, we find there are several
ways to enhance water intake to reduce problems:
- Always keep fresh water readily available, 24 hours a day.
- Place food and water dishes several feet apart and feed and
water in a quiet area.
- Place a second water dish close to your cat's favorite spot.
- Feed Eagle Pack canned cat food (to provide additional moisture
content) for one of the meals.
- Leave dry kibble available at all times. Cats will
nibble/feed between 10-20 times throughout the day and night.
Eating over an extended time also allows for continuous water intake to
balance the food intake.
Vomiting, Diarrhea and
Digestive Tract Health
Books on feline health state that cats do not need added fiber in their
diet. We disagree. We have worked with too many cat
professionals for too many years. They owned cats that for years
suffered with bloody diarrhea and vomiting. They had tried every
diet and numerous vets, yet never found a solution. Once placed on
one of our diets with Inulin and/or beet pulp, the problem resolved
within days. This innovative and nutritionally advanced approach
creates superior digestive tract health and the healthiest immune system
possible.
Hairballs
This seldom occurs with Eagle Pack Diets. If your cat is
especially prone to hairballs, feed our Hairball Control Formula.
It beat the leading hairball formula 6 to 1.
Indoor Cats, Outdoor Cats and
Muscle Tone
House cats that spend time outdoors still do not get much exercise.
You see them slowly walking to a field on mouse patrol and sitting for
hours, just waiting. Whether indoors or outdoors however, their
muscles should still be toned and nutritionally supported. Our
high levels of meat meals support superior muscle tone and elements of
the blood and antibodies.
Joint Health
Our highly digestible protein provides collagen, a naturally occurring
joint nutrient.
Omega-Health®
ALL cats need balanced Omega 6:3 fatty acids in their diet for
skin and hair coat health.
Taurine
Our meat meals assure taurine is included naturally.
